EQuine sports massage

I cover West Cumbria offering Equine Sports Massage, where I am dedicated to enhancing the health, performance, and well-being of your equine partners. My specialised massage therapy services are tailored to meet the unique needs of horses, from competitive athletes to beloved companions.

I understand the intricate biomechanics and demands placed on equine athletes and how massage can help to alleviate muscle tension, promote flexibility, and enhance recovery. Whether your horse is preparing for a competition, recovering from an injury, or simply in need of relaxation, my customised treatments are designed to support optimal performance and health.

Techniques used include deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and more, all carefully adapted to suit each horse's specific needs.

A session includes dynamic and static assessment so I can see the horse's current posture and movement and see any potential areas of stiffness or tension. I then use a range of massage and and gentle joint mobilisations specific to the needs of your horse.

If your horse is currently lame or you are utilising massage as part of a rehab programme please check with your vet first

What are the benefits of Equine Sports Massage?

Equine massage can work alongside other bodywork therapists and offers numerous benefits for horses, both physically and mentally including:

  1. Improved Circulation: Massage enhances blood flow, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to muscles and tissues while aiding in the removal of metabolic waste products.
  2. Enhanced Muscle Function: It helps to relax tight muscles, reduce muscle spasms, and improve flexibility and range of motion. This can lead to better overall performance and a reduced risk of injury.
  3. Pain Relief: By relieving muscle tension and improving circulation, massage can help to alleviate pain, including chronic conditions such as arthritis.
  4. Stress Reduction: Equine massage promotes relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety. This can lead to improved behaviour and a better ability to focus during training or competition.
  5. Improved Lymphatic Drainage: Massage aids in the removal of toxins and supports the immune system by improving lymphatic circulation.
  6. Enhanced Recovery: Post-exercise massage can help to speed up recovery times by reducing muscle soreness and promoting quicker healing of minor injuries.
  7. Increased Joint Flexibility:Regular massage can help maintain or increase joint flexibility, which is essential for athletic performance and overall mobility.
  8. Detection of Early Issues:Regular massage allows for the early detection of potential problems, such as muscle imbalances or areas of soreness, before they develop into more serious issues.
  9. Improved Skin and Coat Condition: The physical manipulation of massage can help improve the condition of the skin and coat, making it healthier and shinier.
